GETTING STARTED
1. What is the "Arena Foot Brawl League - Brute Bowl 2006"?
The AFBL is a set of small teams in CoH/CoV focussed on having friendly
competition in the Arenas. There are several restrictions in place with
the hopes
that those guidelines will create an enjoyable balance and provide a
unique experience to the PvP setting. The AFBL was originated by members
of the Freedom Reborn and No Remorse Force supergroups which are based
out of the freedomreborn.net community.
Brute
Bowl 2006 is a special division of the AFBL. The Brute Bowl 2006 mini-season
will take place in March and April 2006. The second full season of
AFBL action will commence after Issue 7 of City of Heroes/City of Villains
is live.
2. What are
the teams?
Teams will be designated according to color of uniform (ie. Team Black,
Team Orange, Team Red, etc.). Those who expressed interest in Brute Bowl
2006 are thrown into a random pool of players. Team captains will be
chosen from amongst the teams themselves.
Teams
are made up of four players. Power selection is discussed in 'Section
B. Powers'.
NOTE:
Being a team captain in Brute Bowl 2006 will have no bearing on AFBL
Season 2 status.
3. What is
my team’s costume?
The AFBL has strict standards for proper
sporting wear. The team costumes need to meet particular requirements
for Helmet, Upper Body, Lower Body, etc. The elements that are customizable
will be determined by the team captain. Team captains must use the
template to
create their team costumes. The captain has some flexibility in
the design, and the player has some as well. The reason for this is to
create a unity between all AFBL members.
Team
super/villaingroups will be formed by one of the "AFBL Box Seats" NPCs
(characters played by Tortuga, MikeB7, Texas Jack, Bugbear and Captain
Spud to earn influence
for player enhancements). Each
team will become its own Supergroup (to be named “<Team
name> -
Arena Foot Brawl League”.
After
the captain has contacted team members with costume details be
sure to check
that it is correct before beginning to level up your player.
4. How do I prepare
for the season?
Captains:
-
need to contact their teammates with specific costume instructions.
- ensure that power set guidelines are being followed
- schedule a time to level all players to security/threat level 7
- ensure all teammates have appropriate level 10 enhancements. Infamy can
be acquired via any AFBL Box Seats member.
- sign in at the AFBL Forum in the Brute Bowl 2006 section.
- once the seasons has begun, captains need to forward any grievances to
the AFBL Leaders. Although you need to take player anonimity into consideration,
the AFBL Leaders want to solve issues as they arise, not after they've
blown over.
Players:
- follow costume instructions given by your team captain carefully.
- discuss with teammates which power sets will be used by which players.
- make sure you are invited into your team's vg before you do any levelling
up. Once in the vg, play in supergroup mode to earn prestige for your
team. This
will allow teams to have bases to use as locker rooms.
- sell all enhancements as you play from level 1 - 7. Once you reach
level 7, buy all the level 10 training enhancements you can. If extra
infamy is required, check with your team captain or any member of AFBL
Box Seats.
- reach security/threat level 7 before any match takes place.
- sign in at the AFBL Forum in the Brute Bowl 2006 section.
B.
POWERS
1. What ATs and Origins are allowed?
Brute Bowl 2006 takes the AFBL's combat focus one step further and
limits all players to the Brute archetype.
All
players need to be of Natural origin.
2.
Level Requirement
All Brute Bowl 2006 players must be at security/threat level
7 to participate. Any player over level 7 will not be allowed to play
in a game. Any player below level 7 will put their team at a disadvantage.
3.
Power Restrictions
Besides the Power Pool restrictions listed below there are only
two powers that are restricted/not allowed.
a.
"Touch of Fear"
from the Dark Melee primary set is not allowed. The effect lasts too long,
has too much of an effect and is not counterable.
b.
Only one Brute per team can take the "Challenge" power from the Presence
power pool.
4.
Team Diversity
There
is one basic requirement for any Brute Bowl 2006 team. Each Brute primary
and secondary power sets can only be used once.
Power
sets can be mixed (Energy/Stone, Dark/Inv., etc.) but two players on
any team cannot
use the same primary or secondary. In other words, you can't have one
player with Fire/Energy and another with Dark/Energy. 5.
What about Power Pools?
For purposes of keeping the AFBL a balanced combat experience, certain
power pools or powers within power pools are disallowed. There are no
travel powers in AFBL but combat powers within Travel power pools are
allowed. Here is a list of which Power Pools are allowed in full:
a. Leadership
b. Fitness
c. Fighting
d. Medicine As
for the other power pools:
-Teleportation and Concealment are not allowed
in their entirety.
-One Brute per team is allowed to take Challenge from the Presence
pool. Provoke is not allowed.
-Air Superiority is the only power allowed from Flight.
-Flurry is the only power allowed from Super Speed.
-Jump Kick, Combat Jumping and Acrobatics are allowed from Super Leap.
6.
Arena or PvE Temporary Powers
The purchasing and use of temporary arena powers is forbidden. If a
player has earned a temporary power during PvE play, the player is not
allowed to use the power. A team caught using a temporary
power in a match will lose the match by default.
7.
Inspirations
Inspirations can be used during matches. Time is given
between games for players to purchase inspirations. A game will not be
cancelled if a player forgot to purchase inspirations.
C.
SEASONAL PLAY
1. How is Brute Bowl 2006's season structured?
Brute Bowl 2006 will host games every week. Suggested weeks will be scheduled
ahead of time, but the actual date and time will be determined by the
players in the Brute Bowl 2006 Scheduling forum.
A calendar will be
posted on the official AFBL site which will have matches scheduled far
in advance.
2.
What kind of sessions/matches will there be?
The sessions are played as Team Duels with 5 players per team. Each
session includes two matches. Each match has
a time limit of 10 minutes. The scores of one match do not affect the
outcome or the score of the second match. More details on this are found
in 'Section C:4'.
Observers
are allowed and encouraged! 3. My team
match is scheduled for a night that I can’t play!
A team must
have at least three of its four members of its team present at a game.
If one team has only three members present, the opposing team can only
put three
players
into the match. Captains are allowed to substitute one player for another
in between matches if they are playing a three on three match, and have
one player to spare.
4. How do
we keep track of wins/losses/draws?
The winning team in a match will gain 2 points. A tie between two
teams gives each team 1 point. No points are awarded for a loss. The
outcome of the first match has no impact on the score of the second match.
Stats
will be kept track on the forum as well as on the Stat Tracker page
of AFBL Central. 5. Are there
penalties in AFBL?
The only penalties given out in AFBL will be for teams who do not adhere
to the AT, origin, power pool, temporary power and costume restrictions.
If a team shows up to
a game with any one player exceeding the assigned level, that player
is not allowed to play, and therefore, that team will be one player
short.
If any player on a team has taken a power from a power pool that is not
allowed, that player will not be allowed to play until he/she rerolls
and relevels the character or completes a respec. If
a player shows up at a game at a lower level than 7, he/she is allowed
to play, but will be a disadvantage.
D . MISCELLANEOUS
1. Player Names and Facial Appearance
Players are not heroes or villains in the AFBL, players are athletes.
Players names will reflect their human nature and not superpowered
nature. Realistic names that are ‘sporty’ are encouraged.
The 'humaness' also applies to the player's facial features - human faces
only - no
alien,
rock, bio-organic, etc.
2. Are females
allowed?
Yes, female athletes are allowed in the AFBL.
3.
Map Restrictions
All maps have been deemed playable except the 'Eden Trial' map.
If this map is randomly selected, simply quit that game and start another.
4. Max Recovery
Max Recovery should be "on"
for BB2006 games.
5.
What server will this take place on?
Although the majority of players usually play on Freedom, the AFBL is hosted
on the Infinity server.
6.
Third Party Communication Software

encouraged to use CoH's communication for strategizing.
